Aireon announced that it has signed a 17-year, $42M agreement with ITT Exelis (XLS) to provide the Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast, or ADS-B, data processing and distribution component of the Aireon system. This contract further extends the ongoing relationship with Exelis, who also provides systems engineering services for Aireon. Aireon, a joint venture between Iridium Communications Inc. (IRDM) and NAV CANADA, will take advantage of the hosted payload space on Iridium NEXT, Iridium's second-generation satellite constellation.

The Defense Information Systems Agency has awarded ITT Exelis a contract to develop a global netted communications capability for the agency’s Distributed Tactical Communications System. Exelis will provide the Department of Defense and other high-priority/special users with a satellite-based, global "push-to-talk” netted-communications service for voice and data. Work for the contract, which was awarded on May 3, will be performed at the Exelis facility in Dulles, Virginia, and is expected to be demonstrated in 2014.
