ITT Exelis (XLS) has reached settlement agreements with four companies regarding patent infringement claims related to Exelis assisted GPS technology. The settlement agreements resolve all issues regarding the company’s claim that the mobile devices, components and networks sold or supported by Verizon (VZ), Qualcomm (QCOM), LG and Kyocera (KYO), incorporating assisted GPS technology, infringed on Exelis patent rights. Specific details of each of the settlement agreements remain confidential.

Samsung intends to sell a version of its Galaxy S 4 smartphone that will transmit data at almost twice the speed of devices that use conventional LTE, the company's co-CEO said, according to Reuters. Aireon announced that it has signed a 17-year, $42M agreement with ITT Exelis (XLS) to provide the Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast, or ADS-B, data processing and distribution component of the Aireon system. Because of their foreign ownership ties, Verizon Wireless (VZ, VOD) and T-Mobile USA (TMUS, DTEGY) do not have data on their calls collected directly by the National Security Agency, according to The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter. The Journal's sources said the other two nationwide carriers, AT&T (T) and Sprint (S), have long cooperated with the government and officials believe they can still capture information on 99% of U.S. phone traffic because nearly all calls eventually travel over the networks owned by other cooperating companies. Shares of Synaptics (SYNA), which develops touch products for smartphones, are declining after research firm Maxim Group wrote that the company would be hurt by Samsung's (SSNLF) decision to produce many fewer Galaxy S4 devices. WHAT'S NEW: Samsung has started reducing its shipments of Galaxy S 4 smartphones in response to weak sales of the device, Maxim Group wrote in a note to investors. The Korean company is likely to reduce production of the device by 20%-25%, the firm added. Synaptics has the most exposure to the Galaxy S4 of all the companies that Maxim covers, the analyst wrote. TODAY'S PRICE ACTION: In early afternoon trading, Synaptics fell $1, or 2.6%, to $37.75. OTHERS TO WATCH: Other companies with exposure to Samsung devices include Broadcom (BRCM), Maxim Integrated (MXIM), Audience (ADNC), Peregrine (PSMI), RF Micro Devices (RFMD), Skyworks (SWKS), ARM Holdings (ARMH), Qualcomm (QCOM), and TriQuint (TQNT).
