Whirlpool plans to expand its capacity at its Greenville, Ohio plant than makes KitchenAid mixers by more than 75%, reports the Wall Street Journal. The company will spend $40M to expand the plan to 460,000 square feet to keep up with the growing demand. Employment at the plant is expected to rise to about 1,400 in 2018 from 1,000 now. Longbow's North American industry checks indicate major applicance demand had declerated form June/July promotional peaks, indicating a rapid deceleration in the Core 6 category. The firm said the Core 6 categoreis are trending into negative territory following strong July 4th sales event volumes and is hearing laundry sales are particularly weak, and may be by as much as negative double digits. The analyst notes Whirlpool (WHR) is leveraged to laundry sales and, to a lesser extent, AB Electrolux (ELUX).
