11:39 EDTUNFI, SFM, WFMWhole Foods advances after analyst initiates with $48 target
Shares of Whole Foods (WFM) are climbing after research firm Imperial Capital initiated coverage of the shares with an Outperform rating, saying that the recent decline in the stock has created an attractive entry point. WHAT'S NEW: Whole Foods is continuing to gain market share, and its profits can grow at a compound annual growth rate of 12% over the next three years, Imperial analyst Mitchell Pinheiro wrote in a note to investors last night. Following the stock's decline, the shares overestimate the risk facing the company, leaving it with "a reasonable chance" to beat expectations, the analyst contended. He set a $48 price target on the shares. WHAT'S NOTABLE: Citigroup yesterday took a different view on Whole Foods' outlook, cutting its price target on the name to $41 from $55. The firm cited Whole Foods' weaker than expected same-store sales and the reduction in its earnings guidance as reasons for the change. It kept a Neutral rating on the stock. OTHERS TO WATCH: Other grocery store chains that feature organic food include Sprouts Farmers (SFM) and United Natural Foods (UNFI). PRICE ACTION: In late morning trading, Whole Foods climbed 3% t $39.50.
