09:24 EDTVRNG, MSFTVringo subsidiary I/P Engine files lawsuit against Microsoft
Vringo (VRNG) announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, I/P Engine, Inc., filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Microsoft (MSFT) in the Southern District of New York. The lawsuit alleges infringement of U.S. Patent Nos. 6,314,420 and 6,775,664, entitled "Collaborative/Adaptive Search Engine" and "Information Filter System and Method for Integrated Content-Based and Collaborative/Adaptive Feedback Queries," respectively. According to the complaint, I/P Engine is seeking a judgment declaring that Microsoft has and continues to infringe the patents-in-suit, and an award past and future compensatory damages amounting to no less than reasonable royalties, prejudgment interest and any other damages based on any form of recoverable economic injury.

09:24 EDTVRNGVringo intends to seek en banc review of decision in I/P Engine case
Vringo (VRNG) announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary I/P Engine, Inc. intends to file a petition with the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit seeking en banc review of the split appellate decision in its case against AOL (AOL), Google (GOOG) et al. that issued on August 15 and reversed the judgment of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Under the Federal Circuit's rules, I/P Engine's petition for en banc review is due on September 15. I/P Engine has filed an unopposed motion seeking a 30-day extension, which would make its petition due October 15. Upon receiving the requested extension, I/P Engine may file the petition on or anytime prior to October 15.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit that patents claims asserted by I/P Engine, a unit of Vringo (VRNG), are invalid for obviousness and reversed a lower court's ruling in the company's favor.
