Embraer (ERJ) selected United Technology's (UTX) Pratt & Whitney to provide engines for an update of its E-Jet line-up, displacing incumbent GE Aviation (GE), reported The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the deal. The report noted that Rolls Royce (RYCEY) was competing for the contract. Reference Link

Sikorsky Aircraft, a division of United Technologies (UTX), and Boeing (BA) have formed a joint venture to compete for sustainment services in support of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's rotorcraft fleet. Contracts that the joint venture will pursue are administered by the U.S. Government as part of its Foreign Military Sales process. The joint venture will help advance the Kingdom's efforts to diversify its economy, expand the technological expertise of its aerospace and commercial sectors, and create jobs.

GE yesterday afternoon announced what it labeled the first big data and analytics platform robust enough to manage the data produced by large-scale, industrial machines in the cloud. Built to support the Industrial Internet and turn big data into real-time insight, the platform will benefit major global industries including aviation, healthcare, energy production and distribution, transportation and manufacturing, GE stated. Combined with the new GE Predictivity services and technologies available today, airlines, railroads, hospitals and utilities can manage and operate critical machines such as jet engines and gas turbines in the cloud - running businesses better by increasing productivity and reducing waste and downtime, the company reported. This marks the first time industrial companies will have a common architecture, combining intelligent machines, sensors and advanced analytics, it added.

BOC Aviation awarded IAE International Aero Engines AG with an engine order for 13 firm A320 family aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled from May 2014 to December 2016.
