| theflyonthewall.com: | On The Fly: Closing Wrap | | Stocks on Wall Street were lower on the day. Stock futures traded around fair value for most of the pre-market trading session, leading to a relatively quiet open for the broader market. The nearly in line jobless claims data had little effect on the market. The averages dropped following worse than expected data on manufacturing from the Philly Fed and an unexpected decline in the leading economic indicators. The averages never really gained any upside momentum as the market’s losing streak continued for another day… ECONOMIC EVENTS: In the U.S., the number of people seeking unemployment benefits was unchanged last week at 370,000, versus expectations for a decline to 365,000. The leading economic indicators declined 0.1%, versus an expected increase of 0.1%. The Philly Fed survey had a reading of -5.8, versus expectations for a reading of +10.0. In Europe, worries about the health of Spain's banks resurfaced on a report that customers at Bankia had withdrawn more than EUR1B from their accounts in the past week. Meanwhile, Fitch ratings agency downgraded Greece deeper into junk territory... COMPANY NEWS: Wal-Mart (WMT) surged 4.21% higher after its earnings and revenue beat expectations and its forecast for next quarter was about in line with consensus at the mid-point... MAJOR MOVERS: Among the notable gainers were Ctrip.com International (CTRP), up $1.26, or 6.41%, to $20.91, after it posted a sharp rise in its Q1 revenue, and SunPower (SPWR), up 51c, or 10.04%, to $5.59, as Apple (AAPL) got approval for a major solar project in North Carolina and the U.S. set duties on Chinese solar imports... Noteworthy losers included Advance Auto Parts (AAP), down $13.93, or 16.97%, to $68.17, after its earnings missed estimates and the company said it sees 2012 same store sales growth in the low single digits, and MEMC Electronic Materials (WFR), down 47c, or 22.07%, to $1.66, following the resignation of its Chief Financial Officer... INDICES: The Dow lost $156.06, or 1.24%, to $12,442.49; the Nasdaq fell $60.35, or 2.10%, to $2,813.69; and the S&P 500 dropped $19.94, or 1.51%, to $1,304.86. :theflyonthewall.com |

IVECO, a global manufacturer of commercial vehicles, is headquartered in Turin, Italy. WABCO's new agreement with IVECO is consistent with the Brazilian federal government's mandate for compulsory anti-lock braking systems, or ABS, on new trucks, buses and trailers to further increase vehicle and road safety. According to Brazilian legislation, 40% of total commercial vehicles produced in Brazil in 2013 must be equipped with ABS and 100% in 2014. :theflyonthewall.com |
