UPS’ (UPS) last-ditch efforts to win EU approval for its proposed takeover of TNT Express (TNTEY) have been complicated by FedEx (FDX), which would not engage in serious talks to buy a package of TNT assets unless a bigger package was offered, according to Financial Times, citing people involved in the clearance talks. The report added that France’s DPD remains as the lone contender to buy the TNT assets in question. Reference Link

Federal Express Canada, a subsidiary of FedEx, has announced its most comprehensive Canadian retail expansion in the company's history. An agreement has been reached with Home Hardware Stores Limited that allows individual Dealer-Owners the ability to house full-service FedEx Authorized ShipCentres within their stores. This agreement represents the largest opportunity for FedEx Express and FedEx Ground retail growth within Canada to date. In order to meet the needs of Canadian e-consumers, transportation companies are required to offer more proximate "points-of-access" options for drop-off and pick-up services. With close to 1,100 stores across Canada, Home Hardware Dealer-Owners will soon be able to offer FedEx's full suite of domestic and international shipping solutions for their respective communities.

TNT Express N.V. announces that Maarten Jan de Vries will join the company as CFO and member of the Executive Board, pending shareholder approval. Maarten will take over as CFO on July 1. He was previously CEO of TP Vision, a joint venture between TPV and Royal Philips.

In response to the bus crash involving a FedEx truck last week, the NTSB issued the following press release on its website on Friday: The National Transportation Safety Board has launched a go-team to investigate a crash involving a truck that crossed over the center median of Interstate 5 and collided with a motor coach in Orland, California. Highway Safety Investigator Robert Accetta will serve as the investigator-in-charge, leading a multi-disciplinary team of NTSB personnel. NTSB Board Member Mark Rosekind is accompanying the team and will serve as the principal spokesperson during the on-scene phase of the investigation. Reference Link
