theflyonthewall.com: Managed-care companies may benefit from coordination of 'duals', Barron's says
The investment community sees a big opportunity for managed-care companies to play a much larger role in providing comprehensive care to "duals", patients eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid coverage. So far, 15 states have received grants of $1M each to develop comprehensive-care plans. Several states, including California, New York, Michigan and Massachusetts, are moving toward implementation of coordinated care in 2013. UnitedHealth Group (UNH) and Humana (HUM) could be two beneficiaries of greater coverage of duals, Barron's reports. Both get a sizable share of their revenue from Medicaid and Medicare managed care, notably the popular Medicare Advantage programs. Other winners could include Molina (MOH), Centene (CNC) and other Medicaid managed-care specialists. The managed-care industry generates about $650B of annual sales, although Barron's thinks it could be years before these companies get a significant chunk of government spending on the duals.
