Stocks on Wall Street were higher as the Dow and S&P 500 again made new all-time closing highs in a holiday-shortened trading session as the averages drifted higher through the session on light volume. Due to Wednesday's Christmas holiday, U.S. stock markets are set to re-open Thursday morning. ECONOMIC EVENTS: In the U.S., the MBA mortgage market index sank 6.3% for the week ended December 20. Durable goods orders rose 3.5% last month, versus the expected increase of 2.0%. Excluding transportation items, orders increased 1.2%, versus the expected increase of 0.7% for the "core" goods. The FHFA home price index rose 0.5% to 207.2 in October, marking the 21st consecutive monthly increase for the index. New home sales fell 2.1% from the prior month in November to a 464K rate. However, the October's sales rate was revised up to 474K from an initial estimate of 444K. The Richmond Fed manufacturing survey for December came in at 13, versus expectations for a reading of 10. In Asia, China's central bank backed down from its most recent experiment with higher interest rates and provided new liquidity to money markets there. The People's Bank of China reportedly sold about $4.8B worth of seven-day reverse repurchase agreements, according to Chinese financial news outlets. COMPANY NEWS: Tesla (TSLA) gained $7.86, or 5.48%, to $151.41, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reaffirmed the 5-star safety rating of the company's Model S electric car... Shares of social platform operator Twitter (TWTR) gained $5.42, or 8.40%, to $69.96, a new all-time high for the stock, which has risen more than 55% since its initial public offering. MAJOR MOVERS: Among the notable gainers was Supernus Pharmaceuticals (SUPN), up 98c, or 13.24%, to $8.38 after announcing United Therapeutics (UTHR) will pay certain milestone fees and royalties associated with the commercialization of a treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension. Also higher were shares of InterDigital (IDCC), up $1.20, or 4.18%, to $29.92 after the company announced it has entered into a binding arbitration with Huawei to resolve their licensing dispute. Among the noteworthy losers was CalAmp (CAMP), down $1.93, or 7.00%, to $25.63 after the company's fourth quarter guidance missed expectations. INDEXES: The Dow was up 62.94, or 0.39%, to 16,357.55; the S&P 500 was up 5.33, or 0.29%, to 1,833.32; the Nasdaq was up 6.51, or 0.16%, to 4,155.42.

In a push to appease e-commerce companies and mobile-game developers, Twitter is planning to debut 15 types of new ad products and ways to target users over the coming six months, says the Wall Street Journal, citing sources.
