Barclays may reveal on Wednesday with its earnings report that it has reduced the size of its "bad bank" by as much as GBP30B, the London Times reports. Barclays previously said it looked to slash the size of the unit to about GBP80B by the end of the year. Reference Link

A new accounting rule will enable banks outside of the U.S. to write down the value of loans earlier but could cause loans to become less attractive for those banks, according to The New York Times. The rule was issued by the International Accounting Standards Board, whose guidelines are followed in more than 100 countries but not in America, the newspaper stated. Publicly traded European banks include Banco Santander (SAN), Barclays (BCS), Credit Suisse (CS), Deutsche Bank (DB), HSBC (HSBC), ING Groep (ING), Lloyds Banking (LYG), Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and UBS (UBS).Reference Link

Energy Transfer Partners announced that its board has approved a 2c increase in its quarterly distribution to 95.5c per ETP common unit for the quarter ended June 30. The quarterly distribution of 95.5c represents a distribution increase of 24.5c per common unit on an annualized basis, or 6.9%, compared to the second quarter of 2013 and represents an annualized distribution increase of 8c per common unit compared to 1Q14. The cash distribution will be paid on August 14, 2014 to unitholders of record as of the close of business on August 4, 2014.

Barclays filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit from the NY State attorney general that accused the bank of lying to customers on its private stock market, reports the New York Times. The U.K.'s antitrust authorities said they expected to open a formal investigation into Britain's retail banking industry, reports the New York Times.
