Under the new agreement, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois members will have access to health care services at Des Peres Hospital and Saint Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., as well as Tenet-owned outpatient centers and Tenet Physicians Inc., which contracts for physicians employed by various Tenet subsidiaries. Tenet stock (THC) has fallen by 38% from a five-year high of $7.63 set April 1, 2011, in response to the CHS bid. Meanwhile, the market is down 2% over the same period. If the share-price trend is any guide, investors are voting down the company's efforts. If Tenet makes good on its promise for a better second half, the stock might recover somewhat, Barron's contends. But if it doesn't, management's feet might yet be "held to the fire".
