Ladenburg says TASER is "clearly operating" with strong business momentum after the company's Q1 results topped expectations. 19:42 EDTTASRLakewood shorts TASER, claims shares have 50% downside, ValueWalk says
Lakewood Capital has initiated a short position in TASER, reports ValueWalk, citing the investment firm's Q1 letter to investors. Lakewood believes a "fair portion" of TASER's 98,000 weapon sales in 2014 reflect replacement demand, while normalized demand is "well below" 100,000 units. The firm also believes that TASER's current 35% operating margin "may be at peak levels." Additionally, TASER's international opportunities have been "slow to materialize" due to many countries not wishing to arm police units in a similar fashion to the U.S., according to Lakewood's research. Regarding the company's body camera business, Lakewood believes TASER has "multiple well-funded competitors," adding that TASER sells the cameras "at breakeven to negative gross margins" because it does not manufacture them in-house. Lakewood concludes by saying it believes TASER's shares have "nearly 50% downside from current levels." Reference Link
