Japan's Renesas Electronics plans to sell its 55% stake in a unit that is the sole supplier of display driver chips for Apple's (AAPL) iPhone to Synaptics (SYNA), according to Reuters, citing sources familiar with the matter. Apple had also been in talks about a possible purchase of the unit, but the sources said those talks failed to progress. Shares of Synaptics are up 2% to $60.51 in early afternoon trading following the report, while shares of Himax Technologies (HIMX), which focuses on display integrated circuit products and offers LCD consulting to customers, are down over 11%.
