Sterling Construction Company (STRL) announced that its subsidiary, Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction Company, LLC was selected by the Utah Department of Transportation as the contractor on a design-build project valued at approximately $22M. The project will entail roadway widening and reconstruction of a 6.5 mile stretch of I-15 from the S. Payson Interchange to Spanish Fork River. RLW will utilize the services of Michael Baker Jr. Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (BKR), as the lead designer. The project is anticipated to begin in March 2013 and be completed by September 2013.

Sterling Construction announced that it was awarded $26.3M project by the Harris County Toll Road Authority in Houston. The project consists of work on the Hardy Toll Road, where Texas Sterling will replace conventional toll collection facilities with automated ‘toll tag’ facilities. Approximately 35% of the project will be performed by pre-qualified subcontractors covered by surety bonds, which helps to guarantee performance and completion as specified in the contract terms, and reduces construction-related risk to the project owner and to Sterling. In addition, the project scope includes enhancements to exit and entrance ramps and is expected to commence in August 2015 and be completed by October 2016 with incentives for early completion.

Sterling Construction announced that it was the responsive low bidder on a $58.8M Texas Department of Transportation, or TxDOT projected 55 miles south of Dallas in Corsicana, Texas. The project consists of widening an 8.3 mile section of Interstate 45 from four lanes to six lanes. Additionally, the project scope includes the widening of seven existing bridges and the construction of three new bridges. The project is expected to commence in November 2015 and be completed by January 2017.
