TV Vendors are aiming to develop more of their products in Southeast Asia due to difficulties in China, reports DigiTimes. According to market watchers, Samsung (SSNLF) and LG Electronics are looking to sell their entry-level and mid-range direct-type LED backlit TVs in Southeast Asia while Sony (SNE) and Sharp (SHCAY) already have production bases there as well. Hedge-fund investor Daniel Loeb's Third Point LLC increased its stake in Sony Corp. as it moved to persuade the company to launch an IPO of its entertainment division, reports the Wall Street Journal. Third Point added about 5M shares to its Sony stake, for a total of 70M shares, or 6.9% of the company. This morning in Tokyo, Loeb's fimr sent a letter from him to Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai reiterating their argument that Sony should sell a 15% to 20% stake in its entertainment arm, which comprises the company's movie and music businesses.
