16:33 EDTSRESempra Energy temporarily controls gas leak at Aliso Canyon Well
Sempra Energy's regulated subsidiary Southern California Gas temporarily has controlled the flow of natural gas at the leaking well at its Aliso Canyon storage facility outside Los Angeles. It will continue to work in coordination with the California Division of Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources and other agencies during the process of permanently sealing the well. The leak and the flow of gas will be declared ended once DOGGR has confirmed that the well has been permanently sealed. The process by which DOGGR will confirm that the leaking well is permanently sealed could take several additional days after the cement is injected.

In December 2015, the Los Angeles City Attorney and Los Angeles County Counsel filed a complaint on behalf of the People of California against Southern California Gas Company, or SoCalGas, related to the Aliso Canyon natural gas leak for public nuisance and violation of the California Unfair Competition Law. SoCalGas is working hard to both stop the leak and to address our neighbors' concerns. The company will respond to the lawsuit through the judicial process. Southern California Gas Co. is a regulated subsidiary of Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE), a Fortune 500 energy services holding company based in San Diego.
