09:47 EDTSPY, SPXS&P 500 heads to low of monthly range, levels to watch
For the past month the index has traded between a band of approximately 1840 at the low and 1880 at the high. Today price is getting closer to that lower band, and how price behaves is therefore important. A break below 1840 could see an acceleration of selling pressure. A bounce off 1840 would likely mean that the range trade has resumed, with the prospect of earnings season being the catalyst for how the range is resolved. Support below 1840 is at 1836.25 and then at 1828.75. Resistance is at 1848.38.

10:21 EDTSPY, SPXS&P 500 heads for key test of support, levels to watch
The index is heading for a key test of support near both its 200-day moving average and the midpoint of the double top pattern that has been in progress for the last several weeks. The midpoint of the technical pattern is at 1909.57, and the 200-day moving average is not far below at 1904.86. A break below the midpoint would suggest the doubletop has the potential to reach 1800. The break of the 200-day moving average would be further confirmation of the long-term trend change to bearish.
