10:33 EDTSPY, SPXS&P 500 hits fresh life high, levels to watch
The index resolved congestion yesterday at the 1850 area and has pushed further into new record territory as a result. Price is above 1865, with the advance having been nearly straight up from the open. The now-familiar process of the index advancing by increments of "5" and "10" as it reaches new highs is likely to continue, with 1860 as support and 1870 as the next round number objective. All sectors are in the green today, but the leadership is interesting as it is in the more conservative "risk-off" names. Utilities, Consumer Staples, and Health Care are the relative outperformers.

10:21 EDTSPX, SPYS&P 500 heads for key test of support, levels to watch
The index is heading for a key test of support near both its 200-day moving average and the midpoint of the double top pattern that has been in progress for the last several weeks. The midpoint of the technical pattern is at 1909.57, and the 200-day moving average is not far below at 1904.86. A break below the midpoint would suggest the doubletop has the potential to reach 1800. The break of the 200-day moving average would be further confirmation of the long-term trend change to bearish.
