15:46 EDTSPY, SPXS&P 500 hits session highs in last half hour of trading, levels to watch
The index has had a positive week, helped in part by a lessening of emerging market tensions and a drop in overall asset class volatility. It was for the most part a risk-on week following Monday's steep decline and the successful test of that low on Wednesday. At the current level of 1796.34, the index is just now getting back to the high of last week at 1798.77. On a short-term basis the move above the 10-day moving average this morning, when the index gapped up, is bullish. The key now is making it over the 50-day moving average at 1809.46. The bulls need that to happen to maintain a more bullish tone to the tape. That will be Monday's level to watch. In terms of support, 1789.59 becomes the level to watch.

12:01 EDTSPY, SPXS&P 500 hits fresh life high, levels to watch
The inevitable grind higher in the index continues, hitting a new record at 1989.23. It does seem that barring a major negative surprise that the push for 2000 will continue until reached. On an intraday basis there is a bullish flag of sorts that could see a push to 1994 to 1996 today. A move below 1987 would break the pattern. Support is at 1985.32, the opening price.
