12:22 EDTSPY, SPXS&P 500 hits high of the day in final hour of shortened session
The index was last at 1617.56, up fractionally on the day after starting the session in the red. Trading is abbreviated today as markets will close at 1PM ET. Sectors are mixed, with Technology and Consumer Discretionary leaders on the upside along with a more muted performance in the Industrials. The Financials and Consumer Staples stocks are under the most pressure on the downside, which is relatively small. Resistance is at 1622.56, while support is at 1613.23. These are becoming relatively well-worn levels as the index marks time until earnings season begins next week.

The index is at 1979.40 at time of writing, moving above upside resistance. At that price next resistance is at 1985.44 and then at 1987.98. Support is at 1972.83. Leading sectors today are Energy and Utilities, the opposite of yesterday's performance. Consumer Discretionary is also strong. Lagging sectors include Industrials, Consumer Staples, and Health Care.
