News Breaks March 1, 2013 14:52 EDT SPY, SPX S&P 500 approaches 1520 yet again, levels to watch As we head toward the final hour of trading, in very thing volume, the bulls have taken the upper hand once again. The index is knocking at the 1520 area, despite the lack of participation of some big names, such as Apple (AAPL). The coming and going of sequester talks barely ruffled a feather, with macro economic data trumping concerns of big spending cuts. 1520 remains resistance, and 1514.94 is support for now, with 1509.39 below as a second layer of support within a narrow range. As to sectors. only the Industrials are in the red at time of writing. The Financials, Health Care, and Consumer Staples are the relative leaders on the upside in lackluster trading. The low of the session at 1633.23 and then just below 1630 at 1629.05 are support levels that are now familiar territory after the back and forth between 1620 and 1650 that has been going on for some time. Resistance is at 1639.25. 14:08 EDT SPY, SPX S&P 500 heads modestly lower after FOMC statement The index is down to 1643.52 at time of writing, less than half-a-percent lower, following the FOMC statement. And additional dissenter and a somewhat brighter outlook on unemployment may be spooking traders. At current price, next support is at 1639.25. Resistance is at the 1650 area.
