News Breaks February 20, 2013 11:50 EDT SPY, SPX S&P 500 falls to lows of the session as mid-day approaches, levels to watch The index is near session lows at time of writing, last at 1523.51. Sectors are the opposite in many respects of the prior day, with so-called "risk off" sectors outperforming; Utilities, Consumer Staples, and Health Care. The so-called "risk on" sectors are all in the red, with Energy, Materials, and Technology the leaders on the downside. Next support is at 1519.20, the last position of the 10-day moving average. Since this moving average is a stand-in for a hand-drawn uptrend line, price breaking below it would be bearish. Resistance is at 1530.94, the high of the day so far. The low of the session at 1633.23 and then just below 1630 at 1629.05 are support levels that are now familiar territory after the back and forth between 1620 and 1650 that has been going on for some time. Resistance is at 1639.25. 14:08 EDT SPY, SPX S&P 500 heads modestly lower after FOMC statement The index is down to 1643.52 at time of writing, less than half-a-percent lower, following the FOMC statement. And additional dissenter and a somewhat brighter outlook on unemployment may be spooking traders. At current price, next support is at 1639.25. Resistance is at the 1650 area.
