The share price of Smithfield Foods (SFD), the world's largest pork processor and hog producer, is no longer rising like it used to, reports the Wall Street Journal. Now, CEO C. Larry Pope is attempting to to turn the company into a larger player selling packaged meats. While he does that, he's staying with the company's hog-farming operations, a volatile business that at times in recent years has reported sharp losses amid fluctuations in commodity prices.
