Superconductor Technologies provided an update on the status of its Conductus superconducting wire manufacturing assembly process. The machines required for the first two steps of the Conductus process are operational. The third and final machine, the 1 km Reactive Co-evaporation system, now is expected to be operational late in Q3. When the machine is fully operational in 2015, STI expects this machine to produce an initial capacity of 750 km of Conductus wire per year.

06:31 EDTSCONSuperconductor Technologies completes installation for RCE system
Superconductor Technologies announced that it has received and installed the vacuum deposition chamber, completing the hardware installation for the one kilometer Reactive Co-evaporation, or RCE, system. The completion of the RCE system is the final of the three machines necessary to manufacture commercial volumes of Conductus superconducting wire in kilometer lengths. STI has begun the final assembly of machine hardware and is making final preparations for putting the machine in service.
