In 3Q12, SCANA had stated that the initial pouring of the nuclear island basemat had been delayed pending resolution of a technical issue related to concrete reinforcement in elevator pit and sump areas in the auxiliary building at SCE&G's new nuclear construction site. It is anticipated that the license amendment request, with a request for expedited treatment, will be ready for submission to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission near the end of January and that the administrative process relating to the LAR will require several months to complete. The first nuclear concrete pour could take place in the first quarter. It is not anticipated that the resolution of this issue will cause a delay in the commercial operation of the two new nuclear units in 2017 and 2018. | |
