05:47 EDTSBUXTata Starbucks Ltd readies for India market entry by end of October
Tata Starbucks Limited, the 50/50 joint venture between Starbucks Coffee and Tata Global Beverages Ltd, confirmed that the first store in India will open in the Horniman Circle area of Mumbai by the end of October 2012. The store will also be the first Starbucks location to feature espresso sourced and roasted locally from India through the coffee sourcing and roasting agreement with Tata Coffee Ltd. Tata Starbucks Limited today also announced the appointment of Avani Saglani Davda as CEO. Avani will report to the Board of Directors for Tata Starbucks Limited. Continuing to be based in Mumbai, her appointment is effective immediately.

A group of 19 large retailers led by Wal-Mart (WMT) are opting out of a pending settlement with Visa (V) and MasterCard (MA) over swipe fees, reported Dow Jones, citing a statement from the companies. The group of merchants also includes Costco (COST), Starbucks (SBUX), Gap (GPS), Lowe's (LOW) and Nike (NKE), among others, and their announcement comes a week before a court deadline to object to and opt out of the proposed settlement, the report noted.
