theflyonthewall.com: Santander may pay extraordinary, special dividend, FT reports
Banco Santander (SAN) CEO Alfredo Saenz says, the bank continues to generate capital at such a rate that it may have to return cash to shareholders next year through a special dividend, the Financial Times reports. Santander's capital ratio, a measure of financial strength, at the end of June was 7.5% before adding on a further 0.6% in October. By the second half of next year, according to Mr Saenz, retained profits would improve the bank's ratio further to 8.5%. “At this rate, we would then have to take a decision – either we do a bigger payout, an extraordinary dividend, a payback, or we stay with 8.5% until the legislative clouds have cleared,” Saenz said. Santander has been furiously raising capital in anticipation of stricter international norms by June next year. Reference Link :theflyonthewall.com
