08:43 EDTSNE, ROVIRovi announces renewed license agreement with Sony
Rovi Corporation (ROVI) announced that it has renewed the license agreement with Sony (SNE) for interactive program guide patents and technologies. The agreement continues to provide Sony with a license to Roviís guide patent portfolio for its consumer electronics devices worldwide and the ability to use related Rovi guide and metadata technologies. In addition to a relationship involving discovery technology and patents, Rovi will collaborate with Sony on advanced TV advertising. Sony uses Rovi Advertising Service, part of Rovi Cloud Services, on its connected TVs and Blu-ray players in North America and Europe.

According to Taiwan-based hanset component suppliers, Sony Mobile is expected ship over 8M smartphones in the first calendar quarter of 2015, allowing the vendor to reach its revised target of 39.2M units for FY14. Rovi (ROVI) announced that Rovi has renewed its interactive program guide, or IPG, product and patent portfolio license agreement with Sharp (SHCAY). The license provides Sharp with access to Roviís entertainment discovery capabilities worldwide and Roviís G-Guide HTML in Japanese markets for its popular AQUOS brand. The new G-Guide HTML features advanced discovery capabilities such as rich metadata, search functionality, and a browser-based interface to help drive a robust consumer entertainment experience across Sharp TVs and DVRs. G-Guide HTML also boasts a sleek TV listing grid designed to showcase rich images including cast photos, as well as Roviís ďsix-degreesĒ discovery capability, to help consumers quickly find relevant content that interests them.

Worldwide PC shipments is expected to drop 4.9% in 2015, compared to a previous forecast of 3.3%, reports DigiTimes, according to the IDC Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker.
