The billionaire investor Wilbur Ross and his WL Ross & Co. is looking to make "significant" acquisitions in financial services firms in the U.K. and other areas of Europe in coming years, with each deal potentially worth "a few hundred million dollars," he says, reports the Wall Street Journal. The Bank of England's Prudential Regulation Authority on Thursday will seek to crush fears that the split of retail and banking activities will cause capital to be trapped, the Financial Times reports. Some senior bankers, notably at HSBC (HSBC), have fought new rules that force the largest banks to hive off their consumer lending operations into separately governed and funded entities, the report says. Groups with large investment banking arms, including Barclays (BCS) and HSBC, will be hit harder than others, including Lloyds (LYG) and Santander (SAN), the report says. Reference Link
