15:42 EDTARUN, VMW, BCOV, RAXCloud computing stocks lower after Rackspace Q4 results disappoint
A number of names associated with the cloud computing space are trading lower after Rackspace (RAX) reported Q4 results that missed analyst expectations last night. Rackspace, an open cloud company that offers enterprise-level hosting services to businesses, reported Q4 EPS of 21c against analyst estimates of 22c, on revenue of $352.9M against analyst estimates of $355.42M. Although revenue rose 25% in Q4 year over year, the rate of growth is seen as decelerating for the company. Stifel Nicolaus downgraded the company this morning to Hold from Buy, citing the slowdown in growth. In late day trading, Rackspace is down over 20% to $59.87. Other cloud computing names trading lower today include Brightcove (BCOV), down 1.6% to $6.74; Aruba Networks (ARUN), down 4.7% to $21.16; and VMware (VMW), down 3.08% to $74.35.

06:42 EDTRAXRackspace upgraded to Outperform from Sector Perform at RBC Capital
RBC Capital upgraded Rackspace to Outperform and a $36 price target on shares. Analyst Jonathan Atkin believes Rackspace will benefit from its managed cloud support services for Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services as momentum for enterprise cloud continues. Atkin expects demand will be in the managed cloud segment, where Rackspace will gain due to its growing ability to provide support on each of these platforms. The analyst expects accelerating revenue growth coupled with stable to declining capital intensity to drive shares higher.

08:17 EDTVMWEMC risk/reward favorable, says Bernstein
Bernstein notes that EMC's stock is trading at an approximately 24% discount to the valuation at which it agreed to be acquired by Dell and Silver Lake. The firm blames the discrepancy on the decline in VMware's stock since the deal was announced and concerns about the VMware tracking stock. Bernstein blames the decline in VMware's stock on concerns about its corporate governance following the deal and its weak revenue guidance issued last month. Nonetheless, Bernstein thinks the EMC deal will probably close and sees the risk/reward ratio of the stock as positive. It keeps a $30 price target and Outperform rating on the shares.
