Star Scientific says magistrate judge appointed in suit against RJ Reynolds
Star Scientific (CIGX) received an Order from the US District Court for Maryland that refers the company's patent infringement litigation against RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company (RAI) to the Honorable Beth P. Gesner, US Magistrate Judge, for possible settlement. Star Scientific's Chairman and President, commented, "We are pleased that after ten years of hard-fought litigation -- where both sides seldom agreed on issues -- the Court's decision to refer the litigation to a Magistrate Judge for settlement purposes was agreed to by the parties.
