Rite Aid reports For the four weeks ended July 26, same store sales increased 4.6% over the prior-year period. July front-end same store sales increased 1.5%. Pharmacy same store sales, which included an approximate 203 basis points negative impact from new generic introductions, increased 6.0%. Prescription count at comparable stores increased 3.9% over the prior-year period. Total drugstore sales for the four-week period increased 4.1% to $1.975B compared to $1.898B for the same period last year. Prescription sales accounted for 68.6% of drugstore sales, and third party prescription sales represented 97.5% of pharmacy sales.

CVS Health (CVS), which stopped selling tobacco products last month, is now offering a prescription-drug plan via its pharmacy benefits unit Caremark that charges patients copayments that are up to $15 higher on prescriptions filled where tobacco is sold, which includes at rival pharmacies operated by Walgreen (WAG) and Rite-Aid (RAD), reported The Wall Street Journal.
