Ryder (R) is retreating after the company last night lowered its earnings per share guidance due to lower than expected results from its Fleet Management Solutions unit, which leases and rents trucks. Ryder explained that the unit was experiencing reduced demand for commercial truck rental products. In a note to investors this morning, Wells Fargo downgraded Ryder to Market Perform from Outperform. The firm believes that, at a minimum, the truck cycle has paused, and may be slowing more than expected. Wells is unsure when truck rentals will stabilize or rebound. Similarly, research firm Stephens downgraded Ryder to Equal Weight from Overweight, as the firm doesn't see any catalysts for the stock. In early afternoon trading, Ryder dropped 12.86% to $35.51. Other truck transportation providers also retreated, with Pacer International (PACR) falling 1.77% to $5.54 and C.H. Robinson (CHRW) giving back1.75% to $56.82. |
