10:13 EDTPSDVNICE reverses recommendation on implants in treatment of DME
The U.K.'s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence changed its recommendation on fluocinolone acetonide intravitreal implants in the treatment of with chronic diabetic macular edema. NICE stated in a guidance update published Nov. 25 that its prior guidance, published in January, did not recommend fluocinolone acetonide intravitreal implant for treating chronic diabetic macular edema considered insufficiently responsive to available therapies. The updated guidance recommends fluocinolone acetonide intravitreal implant as an option for treating chronic diabetic macular edema that is insufficiently responsive to available therapies only if the implant is to be used in an eye with an intraocular lens and the manufacturer provides fluocinolone acetonide intravitreal implant with the discount agreed in the patient access scheme, NICE said. pSivida's ILUVIEN is an injectable, non-erodible, intravitreal implant for the treatment of DME.
