11:44 EDTPLX, CProtalix engages Citi to assist in reviewing partnering, strategic alternatives
Protalix BioTherapeutics (PLX) confirms, in response to inquiries received this morning and a report appearing in the Israeli press, that the company has engaged Citigroup (C) to assist it in reviewing a broad array of product partnering, technology sharing and other strategic alternatives. There is no assurance that Protalix will undertake any such strategic alternative. Protalix will not comment further on this initiative unless future events would make doing so appropriate.

The shares are down over 3.6% at time of writing to $50.01, near the break of the psychologically important $50 level. Earlier news reported by Bloomberg that the company could face a $7 billion dollar loss from currency swings may be weighing on the stock. Support below $50, which is a penny away from the 30-day moving average, is at $48.92, and then at $47.96, the 50-day moving average. Resistance is at $50.83.

Citigroup (C) could lose about $7B on currency swings if Charles Peabody at Portales Partners is correct, although the analyst is at odds with peers who say the stock will be the best performer among big U.S. banks in the year ahead, reports Bloomberg.
