09:03 EDTPLD, AMZNPrologis signs 1M square foot build-to-suit with Amazon
Prologis announced it signed a lease agreement with Amazon.com to build a more than one million square foot distribution center. Amazon's fulfillment center will be constructed on nearly 90 acres of land at Prologis Park Tracy Phase II, in Tracy, CA, a strategic location proximate to major west coast metro areas, including the San Francisco Bay Area. Upon completion of Amazon's facility, Prologis Park Tracy Phase II will be at full occupancy, with three distribution facilities totaling about 2.2 million square feet.

Prologis announced that Japanese real estate investment trust Nippon Prologis REIT, or NPR, will issue new investment units. Prologis will retain its 15% ownership interest in NPR. NPR intends to use the net proceeds from the issuance, estimated at $374M, for the repayment of the bridge loans used to acquire five Class-A properties for approximately $448M. The properties will be acquired from Prologis' wholly owned Japan portfolio. The assets, totaling approximately 2.4M square feet, were offered to NPR through its sponsor support agreement with Prologis. The acquisition is expected to close September 1 in Japan. NPR is managed by a wholly owned subsidiary of Prologis.

Amazon has hired several technical workers for its Amazon Prime Air project, which involves attempting to set up a program to deliver packages in 30 minutes or less using drones, according to TechCrunch. Amazon will launch an e-commerce hub in the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone at the end of September, according to WantChinaTimes, which cited a report in Chinese-language news agency the Paper.
