05:43 EDTPFESuit claims Wyeth had illegal patents on Effexor, AP reports
A federal lawsuit filed this week in Mississippi alleges Wyeth LLC, now part of Pfizer (PFE), misrepresented clinical data and used sham litigation to maintain a monopoly over Effexor, a drug used to treat anxiety and depression, the Associated Press reports. The suit claims Wyeth's patent for the drug expired in June 2008, but the drug maker fraudulently obtained three patents on extended-release versions. Uniondale Chemists claims Wyeth used fraudulent patents to corner the market on the drug after the original patent lapsed. Reference Link
