PepsiCo announced the opening of a new food and beverage innovation center in Shanghai, China. The state-of-the-art facility, which is PepsiCo's largest research and development center outside of North America, will serve as a hub of new product, packaging and equipment innovation for PepsiCo's businesses throughout Asia. The new facility is equipped with an advanced culinary center and test kitchens focused on developing and tailoring PepsiCo food and beverage brands for distinct, locally relevant taste preferences throughout the region.

Stifel said it views the report in Israel-based Calcalist that SodaStream (SODA) was in talks with a large partner like PepsiCo (PEP), Dr. Pepper (DPS), or Starbucks (SBUX) for a 10%-16% strategic stake as "unsubstantiated and unlikely." Stifel noted that the publication reported falsely in the past that PepsiCo was going to purchase SodaStream and the firm maintained its Sell rating on SodaStream shares. Note that SodaStream shares are up nearly 12% in pre-market trade following Calcalist's report.

BNY Mellon (BK) has appointed Monique Herena senior executive VP and chief human resources officer for the company, effective April 28. Herena will report to CEO Gerald L. Hassell and serve on the Executive Committee, succeeding Lisa Peters, who is retiring after 32 years with the company. Herena joins BNY Mellon from PepsiCo (PEP) where she had an equivalent position.

Kellogg (K) shares have surged over last week amid speculation the company may be a takeover target for Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A), said Bloomberg's "Real M&A" column, which noted that Kellogg fits the financial criteria for the types of acquisitions Buffet has made in the past. Senomyx (SNMX) announced that it has entered into a new collaborative agreement with PepsiCo (PEP) related to Senomyx's Salt Taste Program. The new collaboration will support Senomyx's continued work to identify flavors with modifying properties intended to restore the desired salty taste in products with reduced salt. Under the new agreement, PepsiCo will provide research funding for the Salt Taste Program for 2014 and has options to extend the research funding period. PepsiCo will have non-exclusive rights to salt flavor modifiers discovered during the research funding period. In addition, Senomyx will have the right to supply these flavor ingredients directly to PepsiCo. Financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
