08:06 EDTOVTI, SNENeedham cuts OmniVision estimates after Sony keeps Apple position
Needham said that its channel checks indicate Sony (SNE) has retained its position at Apple (AAPL), supplying the 8MP back-camera sensor for the upcoming iPhone 5. The firm believes OmniVision (OVTI) is supplying the 1.3 MP front-sensors, plus an extra pixel for image. Since Needham had expected Apple would dual-source the 8MP sensor socket between OmniVision and Sony, it lowered its estimates for OmniVision following its channel checks. The firm dropped its price target for shares to $18 from $24, but keeps a Buy rating on the name.
