theflyonthewall.com: Earnings Preview: New York Times may comment on Q1 ad outlook
The New York Times Co. (NYT) is expected to report Q4 earnings before the market open on Wednesday, February 10 with a conference call scheduled for 11 am ET. Analysts are looking for a profit of 38c on revenue of $653.17M. The consensus range is 32c-43c for EPS, and revenue of $629.3M-$668.1M, according to First Call. In October, the company said visibility was limited for advertising in Q4, but that it had seen encouraging signs of improvement in the economy and in discussions with its advertisers. The company recently announced plans for a metered model for NYTimes.com in 2011, which will offer users free access to a set number of articles per month and then charge users once they exceed that number. As for the quarter, rivals Gannett (GCI) and McClatchy (MNI) have reported that ad woes eased somewhat in Q4, and believe things are not getting worse this year. Analysts and investors will listen for comments on the company's ad outlook for Q1, as well as on the metered model. In addition, they will listen for comments on possible delays to a metropolitan New York version of the Wall Street Journal newspaper in April; it has been rumored that the Times is considering taking on the project. :theflyonthewall.com
