11:58 EDTNXPI, BRCM, STM, SSNLFNXP falls after reportedly being displaced in Galaxy S4
NXP Semiconductors (NXPI) is retreating after the NFC Times reported over the weekend that Samsung (SSNLF) had elected to use NFC controllers made by Broadcom (BRCM) for its new Galaxy S4 smartphone, rather than NXP's NFC controllers. Samsung is also utilizing a large-memory embedded chip from STMicroelectronics (STM) for the latest Galaxy model, NFC Times added. Until recently, NXP supplied the NFC technology for all of Samsung's previous smartphones. NXP's NFC products were incorporated into the Galaxy S4’s predecessor, the Galaxy S3, the website added. In late morning trading, NXP Semiconductors fell $1.08, or 3.5%, to $30.15.
