The American Medical Association, or AMA, has officially recognized obesity as a disease, The New York Times reported yesterday. The decision could cause more insurance companies to pay for obesity treatments and spur more doctors to take more steps to combat the condition, the newspaper stated. The AMA overrode a recommendation by a committee that had recommended against making the change, the newspaper noted.
