07:55 EDTTreasury Market Outlook: safe haven buying
Treasury Market Outlook: safe haven buying amid increased tensions in Ukraine has propelled bonds higher. Ukraine president Poroshenko reportedly accused Russia of invasion and called an urgent meeting of the security and defense council. The German Bund yield dropped to a fresh record low at 0.86%, while the 10-year Treasury fell to 2.32%. A mix of data added to some volatility in the markets, with weaker than expected print on Eurozone ESI economic confidence and an increase in German unemployment offset somewhat by an uptick in German state CPI and acceleration in EMU M3 growth. European bourses off about 1%, Asian stocks down about half that, with U.S. equity futures following lower too. On tap today in the U.S. is the $29 B 7-year sale. Data includes revised Q2 GDP, initial jobless claims, and July pending home sales. There's no Fed intervention today, but the NY Fed will announce its September buyback schedule on Friday. Data on Friday includes personal incomee/spending, the August Chicago PMI, and the final Michigan sentiment numbers for August.
