13:15 EDTTreasury's $13 B bond reopening was a big D for disappointment
Treasury's $13 B bond reopening was a big D for disappointment. The auction tailed to 2.681% (the highest of the session) versus 2.665% at the bid deadline. As expected, there was a solid indirect bid of 51.9%, better than both last month's 49.5% and the 46.4% average, and is the highest since July 2014. But bids totaled only $28.3 B for a soft 2.18 cover, below the 2.26 previously and the 2.45 average, and is the lowest since May 2014. Direct bidders were awarded 11.6% versus February's 15.5%, and primary dealers took 36.6% versus 35.1%.

Treasury announced a $ B 10-year TIPS reopening for next Thursday. The size is unchanged from prior reopenings (and is down $2 B from the $15 B new issue size). The debt managers also outlined the usual $52 B 3- and 6-month bill sale for Monday, with the size unchanged for a 6th straight week. Supply lightens up once today's $13 B bond reopen is put in the rear view mirror. It's the final leg of this week's $58 B coupon auctions, which have to date seen solid results.
