06:46 EDTChina central bank action sparks futures rise
Stock futures are pointing to another sharply higher open as the market's volatility is set to continue. The market is currently on a six day losing streak, which is the first such losing streak for the S&P in six years. The early strength in the futures is attributed to the injection of $22B in liquidity into the Chinese market by its central bank. Investors in the U.S. will be watching the durable goods report and weekly energy inventory report for clues on the domestic economy.

05:45 EDTThe Shanghai Composite closed 1.3% for the worse
The Shanghai Composite closed 1.3% for the worse after reversing from a 4.3% gain at the intraday peak. Losses were particularly steep in the last hour of trade as the impact of the PBoC easing announcement faded. The Shenzhen Composite finished with a 3.1% loss after also tumbling from intraday gains. The Shanghai index is now down 40% from June's seven-year high. Most other regional stock markets finished with gains, however, with Japan's Nikkei, for instance, finishing with a 3.2% advance, though the Japanese and other key markets closed while the Chinese market was still in positive territory. European stocks are faring less well, with the STOXX 600 index down 1.6% presently. Commodity prices are also down, for the most part, with NYMEX crude futures having drifted back to the low $39s, and copper futures are showing losses of over 2%.

14:10 EDTU.S. Durable Goods Preview
U.S. Durable Goods Preview: July durable goods data is out Wednesday and should show orders up 1.0% (median -0.5%) following a 3.4% bounce in June. Analysts expect shipments to be up 1.5% from 0.5% in June and inventories to be up 0.6%, the same pace as June. Data in line with this forecast would leave the I/S ratio down to 1.66 after two months at 1.68. There is some downside risk as Boeing orders fell to 101 in July from 181 in June.
