The Air Force Space Command's Space and Missile Systems Center has awarded Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NOC) Information Systems sector the Enhanced Polar System Control and Planning Segment contract. The base contract is for 18 months. The primary work will be done in Redondo Beach, Calif., with additional CAPS work performed in Orlando Fla., and Needham and Marlborough, Mass. The Northrop Grumman team includes General Dynamics (GD) C4 Systems, Inc.; Raytheon (RTN); Boecore, Inc.; Pollere, Inc.; Monterey Technologies, Inc.; Meadowgate Technologies, LLC; Perales Consulting Group, LLC; and Affigent, LLC.

Electric Boat is being awarded a $102.88M modification to previously awarded contract N00024-10-C-2118 for additional lead yard services and development studies and design efforts related to Virginia-class submarines. The services will maintain, update, and support the Virginia-class design and related drawings and data for each Virginia-class submarine, including technology insertion, throughout its construction and post shakedown availability period. The contractor will also provide all engineering and related lead yard services necessary for direct maintenance and support of Virginia-class ship specifications. In addition, the contract provides development studies and design efforts related to the Virginia-class submarine design and design improvements, preliminary and detail component and system design, integration of system engineering, design engineering, test engineering, logistics engineering, and production engineering. The contractor will continue development studies and design efforts related to components and systems to accomplish research and development tasks and prototypes and engineering development models required to fully evaluate new technologies to be inserted in succeeding Virginia-class submarines. Work is expected to be completed by April 2016. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, District of Columbia, is the contracting activity.

Garmin International, a unit of Garmin Ltd. (GRMN), announced the selection of the GSX 70, a full-featured solid-state weather radar by Northrop Grumman (NOC) for the U.S. Air Force fleet of RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aircraft systems. Equipped to fly at a maximum altitude of 60,000 feet with an endurance of 32+ hours, the Global Hawk is a high-altitude, long-endurance UAS.
