15:06 EDTMUEarnings Preview: Micron looks to continue run, up 13% since last report
Micron (MU) is expected to report Q1 earnings after the close on Thursday, December 20, with a conference call scheduled for 4:30 pm ET. Micron manufactures semiconductor devices, principally Dynamic Random Access Memory, or DRAM, NAND Flash and NOR Flash memory... EXPECTATIONS: Analysts are looking for earnings per share of (20c) on revenue of $2.01B. The consensus range is (29c)-(3c) for EPS on revenue of $1.76B-$2.18B, according to First Call... LAST QUARTER: Micron suffered a Q4 loss that was worse than expected, reporting Q4 EPS (24c), compared to consensus of (22c). Q4 revenue also missed expectations at $1.96B, compared to consensus $2.12B. The company said sales of NAND Flash products were 12% lower in Q4 compared to Q3, due to an 11% decrease in sales volume. Also, Q4 DRAM sales were down 9% sequentially due to a 9% decrease in sales volume, while sales of NOR Flash products were approximately 12% of total net sales for Q4... RESEARCH AND REPORTS: Immediately following Micron's Q4 report, research firm RW Baird said Micron's valuation remained attractive and reiterated its Outperform rating and $10 price target. In recent days, DigiTimes, a news source focused on the semiconductor, electronics, computer and communications industries, reported that DRAM contract prices have increased 1%-2% in the first half of this month. DigiTimes also said NAND flash prices dropped 1%-2% in the first half of December... PRICE ACTION: Since the first day of trading after last quarter's report, shares of Micron have advanced about 13%. In late afternoon trading ahead of tonight's report, Micron is down 2c, or 0.29%, to $6.80.
