16:45 EDTMSMorgan Stanley in $1.25B settlement with FHFA on MBS
Morgan Stanley disclosed that on February 4 it reached an agreement in principle to resolve its mortgage-backed securities litigation pending in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, with the Federal Housing Finance Agency as conservator for Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae for $1.25B. The agreement in principle is subject to final approvals by the parties. In connection with the settlement, the company will record an addition to legal reserves of $150M, which will have the impact of reducing income from continuing operations applicable to Morgan Stanley by $97M after tax and EPS amounts from continuing operations by 5c in Q4 and FY13 versus the amounts previously reported in the company’s earnings release dated January 17.
