Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft Studios, has confirmed that Xbox Entertainment Studios will close within a few months, Re/code reports. Nancy Tellem, Jordan Levin and other members of the team will remain to work on original programs that are already in production. In a memo, Spencer says "Xbox will continue to support and deliver interactive sports content like ‘NFL on Xbox,’ and we will continue to enhance our entertainment offering on console by innovating the TV experience through the monthly console updates... Additionally, our app partnerships with world-class content providers bringing entertainment, sports and TV content to Xbox customers around the world are not impacted by this organizational change." Global smartphone shipments in 2015 is expected to increase 16.4% to reach 1.40B units, reports DigiTimes Research. The shipment growth is due to higher growth in demand in emerging markets including India, Southeast Asia and Latin America. Fuji Xerox and Microsoft (MSFT) announced a broad patent cross-licensing agreement. Building on a 2007 cross-licensing pact, the agreement ensures that Microsoft and Fuji Xerox continue to benefit from access to each other’s patent portfolios and accelerate research and development, the companies said. Fuji Xerox is a 75-25 joint venture between FUJIFILM (FUJIY) and Xerox Corporation (XRX).
